Volker Schlöndorff is the internationally acclaimed director of films such as The Tin Drum, Swann in Love, Death of a Salesman, The Handmaid's Tale, Homo Faber/Voyager, The Ninth Day, Diplomacy and Return to Montauk. His work has been recognized with both the Palm d'or at the Cannes Film Festival and the Academy Award. He has just finished his first feature length documentary The Forest Maker on agroforestry in the Sahel and the work of Right Livelihood Award Winner Tony Rinaudo. “Having met Tony Rinaudo as he received the so called Alternative Nobel Award for his work with FMNR (Farmer Managed Natural Regeneration), I decided to make a film about him and his almost 40 years in Africa. Trees stabilize the ground, manage rainfall, absorb CO2, restore the soil making agroforestry possible, feeding millions.” – Volker Schlöndorff
