Campos is a leader with experience in science and innovation, education, policy dialogue, and interagency and international cooperation that will help SAN in its mission to grow and consolidate itself as a global network of local organizations working together to achieve positive changes in agricultural and forests landscapes and the people dependent on them. The new SAN Executive Director has a Ph.D. in forest sciences from the University of Oxford, a M.Sc,in management of renewable natural resources from University of Costa Rica and CATIE, and a B.Sc. in forestry from the Superior School of Agriculture “Luiz de Queiroz” University of São Paulo, Brazil. He has also published extensively. For Laura de Santis Prada, Executive Secretary of Imaflora and President of the SAN Board of Directors "in addition to a solid curriculum as Doctor, Master and Bachelor, and his extensive experience transforming organizations for the better, José Joaquín brings with him skills to engage and motivate people in for a positive purpose, imbued with the true spirit of cooperation, which is the key to achieving the ambitious goals of SAN.” Campos is a Costa Rican citizen who speaks three languages: Spanish, English and Portuguese. He has also been living and working in several continents. His appointment was approved by the SAN Board of Directors after an extensive search. He will be based initially in Costa Rica. “I am deeply honored and motivated to work with SAN´s staff, Board, members and partners around the planet, to maximize our impact through collaborative efforts, based on a shared, relevant and innovative vision, that allow us to bring the necessary human and financial resources to implement our work agenda that could contribute to global goals with local actions,” said Campos.
