Description

A conservation ecologist with a broad interdisciplinary background, Marion Adeney is committed to working at the intersection of environmental conservation, science, and development. At the Andes-Amazon Initiative of the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, Marion focuses on conservation, management, and monitoring of protected areas and Indigenous lands in the Brazilian Amazon. Previously, as an American Association for Advancement of Sciences (AAAS) Fellow at USAID in Peru and Washington DC, she integrated science, technology, and innovation into USAID’s Amazon conservation programs and strategies. Marion has expertise in tropical, fire, and landscape ecology, with interest in spatial analysis and the intersection of science and technology with community-based conservation. Marion has extensive experience in the Amazon and Southeast Asia, and speaks Spanish, Portuguese, and Bahasa Indonesia. She has a PhD in Conservation Ecology from Duke University, an MA in Ecology, Evolution, and Conservation Biology from Columbia University, and a BA in American Studies from the University of California at Santa Cruz.
