The Integration of Protected Areas of the Amazon Biome project - IAPA is a contribution to strengthening the regional initiative Amazon Vision of Redparques. The project is funded by the European Union, coordinated by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations - FAO and implemented in conjunction with WWF, the International Union for Conservation of Nature - IUCN, UN Environment and Redparques. The first phase of the IAPA Project (2014 - 2019) was funded by the European Union and implemented by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and the United Nations Environment Program (UN-Environment). In order to strengthen the implementation of the Amazon Vision and its Action Plan in the protected areas of Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Peru, Suriname and Venezuela, the project sought to promote horizontal technical cooperation between the countries. of the Amazon region for a greater integration of protected areas in the biome. The project interacted with the six IUCN Commissions of Experts, and with more than 34 IUCN members from South, Central and Meso America. You can find the main results here. Within the framework of a new phase of IAPA, the European Union has committed funds to give continuity to the most relevant interventions in the biome, such as the implementation of agreements for the shared management of natural resources (management of hydrobiological resources in Peru and Brazil) , the identification of OMECs in the biome, the contribution of Amazonian protected areas to the fulfillment of the SDGs, or the strengthening of capacities of the regional working groups of REDPARQUES. Other activities include participation in the World Conservation Congress or the positioning of conservation achievements in the biome at the Biodiversity COP15 in China. At the request of the donor, in this closing phase, actions will be extended not only to the Andean-Amazonian Subdirectorate of REDPARQUES but, especially in relation to capacity building, to all of Latin America. At the biome level, the work has been maintained in the two priority conservation landscapes (North: Colombia, Ecuador and Peru; and South: Peru, Bolivia and Brazil).
